Depending on how the stone is mounted, getting an accurate weight can be difficult. How the stone is mounted can make determining clarity and color difficult as well.

When I am buying a diamond, I will do all of my own measurements and calculations and then compare them to any receipts of certifications that the customer may have. If my calculations agree with the customers info it gives me added confidence that the diamond will weigh what I think it will once it is removed from the mounting. This allows me to offer more money.
